Artwell Nazo: National President

I started working at Langeberg Foods (now Tiger Brands) in Boksburg in 1982. During the period of political instability and problems with the employer, I joined FAWU IN 1985 as a member of the Springs branch. Later Springs and Kempton Park became one branch, now known as Wits East Branch. In 1989 I was elected a shop steward and in 2007 I was chosen as the National Treasurer.
Besides doing union work, I am an active member of the ANC and SACP. I became part of the ANC leadership of Daveyton branch in 1990 and led the branch until 1994. I was also chair person of the Benoni local of COSATU.
My responsibilities at work and political activities keep me busy.
I wish FAWU to be visible in campaigns and deliver better services to workers. There is a huge crisis facing workers and the challenges for the union remain many. We must remain steadfast in focusing on workers’ needs and sustain service delivery. We have to ensure that we gain more members. We have the potential we just need to the change the attitude towards achieving our goals.
